Intelligent Motoring teams up with SYNETIQ to deliver green parts, streamline the vehicle repair process and bring savings to motorists
Proposed Government MOT reform puts road users at risk.
Posted on Jun 14, 2023 by Justine Hoadley
Intelligent Motoring is joining with leading integrated salvage and green parts provider, SYNETIQ, an IAA company, to meet growing consumer demand for green parts and reduce down-time for vehicles being serviced, maintained or repaired (SMR). Recent Intelligent Motoring research found that 82% of car owners would take advantage of green parts if offered to them – but only 13% have ever been offered such parts.
Green parts used are OEM, non-safety critical items - such as doors, engines, headlamps, and tailgates. The new initiative is backed by Intelligent Motoring’s nationwide network of over 10,000 garages, while recognising the growing green ambition of its community of half a million motorists.
Intelligent Motoring’s MotorEasy and Warranty Assist customers are offered discounted repairs through the provision of certified green parts prior to SMR work being authorised by its inhouse team of experts.
“Consumers and businesses are paying closer attention to their environmental impact than ever before, and that extends to how they maintain their cars,” commented Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO of Intelligent Motoring. “Our survey showed a significant consumer appetite for greener repairs, yet very few car owners have been offered recycled or reconditioned parts at the point of SMR or warranty work. We are delighted to now be working with SYNETIQ to change that.
“In addition to helping to reduce the UK’s carbon footprint, green parts are cheaper and quicker to source than the manufacturing and fitting of brand-new parts. In fact, with our SMR and warranty solutions available for vehicles up to twelve years of age, many of our garages struggle to get new parts because they are no longer manufactured. This collaboration is a true win-win.”
SYNETIQ provides the fleet, bodyshop and insurance industries with green parts that are safe for reuse and which have received the highest standard of scrutiny before being reused, ensuring vehicle safety and longevity. In addition, SYNETIQ is the first vehicle salvage, dismantler and recycler in the UK to introduce carbon labelling for its green parts, delivering a carbon emissions reduction projection for each component used in every repair to demonstrate the environmental savings green parts offer.
Sarah Hirst, Client and Green Parts Director said: “The use of quality assured green parts reduces carbon emissions by up to 92% compared to fitting newly manufactured equivalent parts. As such, increasing the use of green parts is improving the global automotive industry’s environmental impact, a move that is fully supported by today’s car owners. Sustainability is at the heart of all we do at SYNETIQ, and we are delighted to be able to help Intelligent Motoring take significant strides in the company’s own sustainability journey.”
Dealers, garages and service providers should only ever purchase certified recycled or reconditioned parts. The Vehicle Recyclers’ Association (VRA) Certification Scheme provides independent assessment of a recycler’s policies and procedures, aimed at ensuring that every reclaimed vehicle part has been accurately identified, recorded, tested and graded.
